A Craftsman's Home Until 1988, when Bryce and Linda Ritter happened on the late-18th century stone house they were to make their own, the structure had barely been touched since it was added on to in the 1930's. Its last owner, in fact, had lived in the house for 55 years without changing a thing. The lack of tampering meant that architectural features of the house emerged unscathed by the whims of modernization, so most additional work-except for a log kitchen addition and the installation of new bathrooms for the couple and their children-was cosmetic. Bryce had trained himself as a cabinetmaker, working with old tools to emulate antique practices; now, with their children grown and gone, the Ritters' house serves as a showcase for the furnishings Bryce creates in his workshop on the one-acre property. |
